Among one of the first things I did was consult the internet and join The Knot to begin my wedding checklist. I basically Google'd "purple wedding" and started drooling over all the ideas that began dancing through my brain. Dresses, cakes, flowers, and so many other things I hadn't even begun to think about were displayed before me in all their purple haze.... (all in my brain...)
This picture has the dresses and bouquets that served as a good starting point for what kind of gowns I would want my bridesmaids to wear (Wait, I still had to choose bridesmaids!) and what kind of flowers I wanted them to hold. I also loved the ribbon on the cake and initially wanted a square cake but Kevin didn't like the idea of a square cake because he said it didn't look formal enough for the occasion. I also liked the chair covers and the little escort card thingies so I got lots of ideas to start writing down.
This one is mainly on here because I fell in love with the candy idea right away! Plus, the dress is very similar in style to the dress I actually ended up choosing for my bridesmaids. I also love the lighting in the picture with the glass table, but I don't even know how to go about looking into that.
I'm not a big fan of using balloons at my wedding because I don't think it's formal enough for the occasion but I like the tulle swag on the table and that will help decorate for the reception because I really had no idea what to do as far as decorations, seeing as how we didn't even have a venue picked out yet. You can see that my priorities weren't very well in order this early into the planning because it all came at me full force and I didn't know how to divide things up into categories until I started checking out other brides' blogs. Thanks, other brides!
And thanks to other inter-webbers for putting together these collages so that brides who don't have every detail already nailed down before they even have the groom can look at them for ideas and inspirations. Hopefully, budget pending, some of these ideas will be incorporated into the final product!
All of the things you posted are very pretty! Do you still need help with flowers and stuff? Because I'd be more the happy to help you with anything; if you'd like me to help. We'll have to find a day when you can kidnap me (and SOMEBODY's [we'll figure out who later] debit card) and we go to craft stores. It wasn't until I was deep into my DIY venture that I realized that my wedding wasn't going to look like what you see on TV and in magazines and stuff like that. I know you know that most weddings don't look like that. Because those are all designed by nit-picky people who design weddings for a living. Not by people who have real lives and real stresses; such as finding a job. And I totally sympathize and understand your stress on that. But you're a very creative person, Emily, and you're going to do a great job on making this YOUR beautiful wedding. I can't wait to see how it all comes together. And remember, it may not seem like it, but two months and some change is enough time. You have to do a little everyday, but it's time. Mom and Dad did their wedding in about two months. And I didn't start working on my flowers until October. You've got plenty of people who are willing to help. And you can count me as one of them.
ReplyDeleteOh, I've got a lot of it all done so I'm kinda coasting right now. I hope you are pleasantly surprised when you come to the wedding. I want to keep some things a secret so you can ooh-ahh over them.
ReplyDeleteDo you have jewelry done? Or do you still need that done? They won't take me more than a day, so don't feel rushed on any of the jewelry. If it's not already done... You know what I mean.
